St. John - Mercy Health and the Cincinnati Recreation Center Partner to Celebrate Summer in the City, Help Students in Over-the-Rhine
(CINCINNATI; August 9, 2012) -- St. John – Mercy Health, in collaboration with the Cincinnati Recreation Center, will host its annual “Summer in the City” event on Thursday, August 16, at the Over-the-Rhine Recreation Center from 5-7 pm. This year marks the 10th anniversary of this festive, community-oriented event that is open to all.
“Summer in the City” is a fun, free event designed to generate excitement about the upcoming school year and position inner-city students and families for academic success. All attendees receive a book bag full of school supplies. Activities include arts and crafts, games, face-painting, roller skating, open gym and clowns with balloon animals.
Gwen Finegan, Executive Director of Mercy Health – St. John, commented on St. John’s collaboration with CRC: “It is very generous of the Over-the-Rhine Recreation Center to donate their building every year rent-free. This is the first year we are serving not just St. John families but also families referred by the Rec Center. St. John has been a neighborhood resource for 76 years and continues to find new ways to serve the community.”
Previous “Summer in the City” events have attracted enthusiastic crowds of 600 to 700 people. The event itself is run and overseen by volunteers. If you would like to help, please contact Stephanie Brown at 513-981-5816 or scbrown@health-partners.org.
